Reasoning and the tool calls behind an answer are counted in what you see; what Mate reads to answer is discounted to a sixth of its weight before it reaches your balance.

A simple message runs about 2,000; a question that queries your database about 5,000; a detailed report that reads across the whole database 8,000–10,000. About 20 standard questions fit in 100,000 tokens; a realistic mix with reports and actions runs nearer 16, and the plan sizes use that figure.

Yes — on paid plans whatever you don't spend carries into the next month, for as long as you subscribe. If you cancel, the balance is held rather than lost: it does not expire, and resubscribing returns every token of it.
The dashboard shows spend per person and per question, and the query log keeps every question alongside the exact query it became.
